  • Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish (Redemptorist Church), roger macatol (guest) wrote 7 years ago:
    1. Short History of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish In 1955, Frs. Scanlon, Burns and Myers came to Davao to establish the first Redemptorist Community. A temporary residence was erected at F. Torres St. near Davao City High School. That residence is now known as the Assumption Parish in Davao City. In 1959, the Redemptorists transferred to their present location at Bajada, Davao City. In 1972, the Redemptorist House became a Parish which was known as Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish covering, Callawa, Mandug, Tigatto and Buhangin areas. In 1974 to the 1980’s, the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) organizing begun. Frs. Dom McKenna, Purcell and Fruto made missions in these areas with the assistance of the theology students. The Philippine Lay Missionary Program and the Missionaries of the Assumption nuns were also able to assist in the organizing of GKKs. They were able to organize 87 GKKs.7 In 1986, part of the Parish was taken over by the Archdiocesan Clergy and made into a Parish called St. Mary’s Parish. That part was the Tigatto 8-9, Balon, La Panday, Diversion Road – Buhangin, Balite, St. Jude, Walingwaling, Medalla Milagrosa, San Nicolas, San Isidro 1 and 2 and Sta. Cruz. In 2003, another part of the Our Mother of Perpetual Parish was made into another Parish. This part was the DDF, Mandug, Callawa, Lapuy, and Pangi. During that time there were already 39 GKKs in these areas. What were left as Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish were the 33 GKKs found in some part of Barangay 19B, some part of Barangay Angliongto, and Buhangin areas.

  • A. L. Navarro Central Elementary School AND ALNHS, Jacy (guest) wrote 8 years ago:
You thought wrong. Please read Davao History by Ernesto Corcino where it is stated that the vast lands extending all over northern Davao teritory belonged to the native Lausan Clan of the Calagan Tribe. Furthermore, it is a known fact in Lasang and is stated in the Navarro Family History that The parcel of land where in the school now stands has been legitimately donated by Dataran Lausan a.k.a. Alejandra Lausan Navarro to ensure that her people and decendants are going to be well educated. Hence the school being named after her.
